According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, on July 2, Taiwanese startup companies fared very well in the SelectUSA Tech competition in the state of Maryland in the United States. The Taiwanese companies earned two first prizes and one-second place in the seven categories of the competition.

The ministry announced that Astron MedTech Co., founded by Taiwan Accelerator Plus (TAcc+), which the MOEA sponsors, and Lydsec Digital Technology Co. were the winners in the MedTech and Cybersecurity categories, respectively. Cancerfree Biotech was awarded second place prize in the MedTech category.

The tournament was hosted as part of the SelectUSA Investment Summit, which took place from June 26-29. It featured 14 local startup companies competing against finalists from across the world. The ministry also mentioned that other significant sectors included Clean Technology, eCommerce & Retail, Financial Technology, Software, and others.

During the summit, the Director General of the Small and Medium Enterprise Administration of the MOEA, Ho Chin-Tsang, met with the Senior Director of the Maryland Department of Commerce, Jessica Reynolds, to discuss setting up a startup exchange platform between Taiwan and the state, according to the ministry. Additionally, the ministry said that the country’s Startup Terrace in New Taipei City, the Asia New Bay Area 5G AIoT Innovation Park in the southern city of Kaohsiung, and TAcc+ would work.

SelectUSA Tech is the most high-profile event dedicated to attracting foreign direct investment into the United States. It was first launched in 2013 by the United States Department of Commerce.

After the summit, Ho and representatives from 23 Taiwanese entrepreneurs went on a tour of Silicon Valley in California. They attended a roundtable discussion on NextGen Telecom held by the American Institute in Taiwan, according to the MOEA. (YCH-E).

The SelectUSA Investment Summit is the most well-known event in the country that promotes foreign direct investment (FDI). This year’s Investment Summit keeps its established format. It offers exciting chances for more investors from more markets and greater representation from economic developers (EDO) across the country to engage and interact. The Investment Summit will be the most eagerly awaited and fruitful FDI event you attend all year.
